Located in Spencer County, Indiana, Rockport is a city situated in Ohio Township. Rockport serves as the county seat of Spencer County and was once the largest community in the county. The city has a population of about 2,200 residents according to the 2010 census. Rockport is the southernmost city in Indiana. Portions of the land on which the city sits were first sold in 1818 and the Rockport post office has been in operation since 1823.

Rockport is a fairly small city but there are some notable destinations located within its limits. There are three sites located in Rockport that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Lincoln Pioneer Village is situated within Rockport City Park. The first phase of the village was completed in 1935. The village is home to a number of replica cabins and business from the time when President Abraham Lincoln lived in the area. Also located in Rockport is the Mathias Sharp House. The historic residence was built in the third quarter of the 19th century and was the center of a famous murder trial not long after its construction. Another historic site in the city is the Spencer County Courthouse. The building was designed by a noted architect in 1921 and is a neoclassical style limestone building.

Rockport is found in an area of the country that is characterized by cool winters and warm summers. The months of December, January, February have daytime temperatures that range from the low to upper-40s on average. In addition to cool temperatures, it is not uncommon for Rockport to experience snowfall during these months.
