Owensboro is situated in the northwestern portion of Kentucky. The city is located in and serves as the county seat of Daviess County. Owensboro is the fourth largest city in Kentucky with a population of almost 60,000 residents. Situated along U.S. Route 60, Owensboro is the principal city of the Owensboro metropolitan area. The city was first settled by European frontiersmen in 1797. However, evidence of American Indian settlements in the area dates back 12,000 years.

There is not a lack of things to see and do around Owensboro. In 2013, the city was named an All-American City and was placed fourth on Area Development’s list of Top 20 Southern Cities. The city is nicknamed the BBQ Capital of the World and holds the International Bar-B-Q Festival and competition each May. During the summer, Owensboro hosts the Big O Music Fest which is a large country music festival. The festival has attracted famous music artists from all generations of country music. The city is also home to the River of Music Party. The bluegrass festival attracts about 20,000 visitors a year and won the Governor’s Award for Community Arts in 2013.

Owensboro experiences weather characterized by cool winters and warm summers. Daytime temperatures during the months of December, January, and February tend to vary from the low to upper-40s on average.
