Located in the southwestern corner of Indiana, Newburgh is situated in Ohio Township and Warrick County. The town lies along the Ohio River and is part of the Evansville metropolitan area. Newburgh has a population of approximately 3,325 residents according to the 2010 United States census. The area in which Newburgh is situated was first discovered by explorers in the 17th century. The town was founded in 1829 by Abner Luce and was merged with nearby Sprinkelsburgh. By 1850 the town was considered a large river port. Newburgh was the first town north of the Mason-Dixon Line captured by Confederate troops in the Newburgh Raid during the American Civil War.

Newburgh is a town that has many features and attractions that will be of interest to all individuals. Main Street in Newburgh has been groomed by the town to embody a historic village air. Newburgh’s Main Street has many dining and shopping opportunities to keep both residents and visitors satisfied while exploring the city. Newburgh also hosts many cultural events each summer. Some of the more popular festivals held by the town are the Wine, Art & Jazz Festival, Fiddler Fest, and the Strawberry Festival. The Newburgh historic association hosts the Ghost Walks in the downtown section of the town. The event is seen as an educational opportunity where attendees learn about Newburgh’s mining history, the Civil War, and the Underground Railroad.

Due to Newburgh’s location in the upper-Midwest, the town experiences very cool winters and warm summers. The months of December, January, and February have daytime temperatures that vary from the low to upper-40s on average. Snow is also very common during these months. Newburgh has an average snowfall of 12 inches. Residents of the town should invest in heating systems that are capable of keeping their homes warm during the cooler months of the year.

Summers in Newburgh are generally mild, with daytime temperatures ranging from the upper-80s to low-90s on average.
